Blogging – The Top 4 Mistakes Made By New Bloggers

There are 4 mistakes that most new bloggers make. They are easy to avoid, and even easier not to create in the first place.

Mistake #1 – Not Sticking to the Topic of Your Blog
Blogs are designed around a theme. The more focused the theme, the more likely you’ll attract interested traffic. Most new bloggers however either ‘fish around’ for a theme, hoping to hit on something that works, or are just scattered in general. The solution is to keep your posts as focused as possible on the overall topic that you set out for your blog.

Mistake #2 – Not Driving Traffic to Their Blogs
Blogging is not about just posting content. Most people believe that if they build a blog, people will automatically come. That is simply not true. Driving traffic to your site is not complicated. You can do it by participating in other sites, using your URL in your email signature line, commenting on other blogs, writing articles and promoting your blog on social media. With wide exposure you’ll gain far more traffic than simply relying on Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Mistake #3 – Not Updating Often Enough
Most new bloggers start out great. They are excited and write lots of posts. Then, it tapers off. They become discouraged or think that they are doing something wrong. Blogging needs just as much attention as any other site and usually more especially in the beginning. If the beginning, you should post 3 to 5 times a week.

Mistake #4 – Not Connecting With Others in Your Niche
It is important to contact others in your niche. You can participate in link exchanges. One of the best ways to do this is to ‘mutually’ recommend one another’s sites. You ask the blog owner to review your site and you can do the same. This will build a review style link exchange. You can also write guest blog posts for them and ask them to do the same for you. Building these relationships makes it easier to find potential joint venture partners in the future.

No matter what mistakes new bloggers make, there’s always a way to fix them. Remember to keep your blog focused on your topic, drive traffic to your blog, update your blog often and connect with others in your niche.
