Wikepedia defines file sharing as “the practice of distributing or providing access to digitally stored information, such as computer programs, multimedia (audio, images and video), documents, or electronic books.“ When I think of file sharing in terms of online marketing, I am talking about file sharing in terms of documents. Did you know that there are many sites that allow you to upload your document or PowerPoint presentation for free? There are probably ten million people online, looking for downloads and information at any given time.
File Sharing – Documents
Document sharing sites usually let you upload Word and PDF documents. DocStoc is a document sharing site.
File Sharing – Presentations
You can share your PowerPoint presentations on sites. One of the most popular slide sharing sites is Slideshare. Slideshare has 60 million monthly visitors and 130 million pageviews so this definitely a good site to upload your content. Besides presentations you can also upload documents, PDFs, videos and webinars. I uploaded my PowerPoint presentation Amazon aStore Checklist to SlideShare.
AuthorStream is another slide sharing site that allows you to upload your PowerPoint presentation and then embed it in your website or share on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter). SlideBoom and SlideServe are two other slide sharing sites.
File Sharing – Content Creation
One thing that may deter you from using these sites is thinking that you need to create completely new content. This is not the case. You can use content that you already have for the file sharing sites. For example, you can take a blog post and create a PowerPoint presentation. You can also create a PowerPoint presentation from a free report that you have written. These presentations can also be converted to PDF and uploaded on document sharing sites.
Leave a comment and let me know what slide sharing and document sharing sites you are currently using.
