If you have a blog, then your goal is to consistently create new content to post on your blog. This content can be your own content, Private Label Rights (PLR) or curated content. Now that you have all this content on your blog, you want people to read it. Here are 6 tips to increase blog traffic.
Brendan M. Egan of Simple SEO Group wrote a blog post that describes how to get people to read your blog posts. He believes the following 6 tips will increase blog traffic:
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #1 – Avoid promotion
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #2 – Use Visuals
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #3 – Use examples
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #4 – Personalize your posts
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #5 – Format properly
- Increase Blog Traffic Tip #6 – Have a means of getting readers
Overall, I agree with this post except for Tip #1, Avoid Promotion. Brendan Egan states the following:
“The first, and maybe most important, rule of blogging is to avoid promotion. Whether that is self promotion, promotion of an affiliated brand, or promotion of some guy off the street willing to pay you for a mention in a blog post.”
I do believe just like Brendan Egan that you should make sure your posts have great content, but I don’t believe that you should never include promotional information in your post. If there is a product that you are promoting as an affiliate, it may make sense to create a product review blog post. You can describe what you like about the product, what you don’t like about the product or even how you have used the product. This is too much information to include in an email to your prospects.
Also, you may be talking about a topic in a blog post that would be enhanced by mentioning a product that is complimentary to the topic. This could be a paid product or even a free one. These are just two reasons why I disagree with Tip #1.
Tip #6 states ways to get more readers. You should let your email subscribers now about your blog posts. This is something that I do not do on a consistent basis but should. Make sure you are sharing your blog posts on social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. You can also get even more sharing by using JustRetweet.
Also, make sure you are paying attention to Search Engine Optimization or SEO. I do this by using the Yoast SEO WordPress plugin. Lastly, don’t forget about syndication. You can syndicate your blog post on Medium and LinkedIn by sharing your story.
As you can see, there are many ways you can increase blog traffic. Some of these may resonate with you and some may not. I encourage you to try this out. Which one of these methods do you already use and which ones will you try? Leave a comment and let me know.
