Independence Day and My Dreams of Independence

Independence DayToday is Independence Day in the United States.  Independence Day or the 4th of July is a holiday in the United States that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Great Britain. As I reflect on this holiday, I also think about my dreams of my own independence. My goal is to leave my full time corporate job and have a full time online marketing business.  I am currently still working full time and working on my online marketing business on a part-time business.

Free Time

When I am completely free and working my online marketing business full time, I will be able to fully fulfill my dreams. Over the years, I have neglected many things to include my family, my health, my friends, my home and car. My number one dream is to spend more time with my family and friends.  I also want to have the resources to help them when necessary.  I want to be a role model for my son, nieces and nephews so they know that you can make a decent living without working for someone in a traditional job.  I want them to know that they can be an entrepreneur if that is what they desire.

Leave the Corporate World Behind

My second desire is to show every person who is in corporate America who wants to get out of the corporate world how they can initially start part-time with an online marketing business. The goal would be moving them to a place where they can replace their full-time income. I feel that I can really help this audience because I am part of this community. I understand the pressures of their full time jobs and how to balance it with a part-time business.

I also have a dream of creating two non-profits.  The first one would be in honor of my mother. She died from leukemia at the age of 49.  Unfortunately, we could not find a bone marrow donor for her.  She did undergo an experimental stem cell transplant in which the patient undergoes the same exact procedure as a bone marrow transplant.  I want to start a foundation that provides assistance to individuals who have to undergo a bone marrow transplant due to leukemia.  This procedure is very expensive and requires months of recovery. My father passed away in February at the age of 69.  He had diabetes for many years which led to many other chronic diseases.  I want to start a foundation that teaches children healthy habits so that they will not be susceptible to Type 2 diabetes as an adult.

Science, Technology & Math

My last desire also has to do with children. I have degrees in Mathematics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science so it saddens me when I see how the United States is losing ground in Math and Science.  There are so many children who think that Math is hard. I want to start a technology center geared specifically to girls that will teach math, science and technology.  I want girls to think that these topics are fun, not hard and that they can succeed in them. I want to teach them about online marketing so that they can have their own business instead of looking for a menial summer job.

During this Independence Day, please take some time to think about your desires and what you really want to do in life. It is never too late to fulfill your dreams.

  1. I love this post Adrienne and how you are so clear about your goals. They are totally unselfish and I hope you are able to save enough early to leave corporate America. Glad to see someone with goals that are not self serving but to help others. I pray that you fulfill them all.

    • It took me a while to finally figure it out. What things are you good at doing? What things are you passionate about? What things are marketable? The intersection of these three things are things you should look at doing.
