This means that whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly, part of the course is delivered to those who signed up for it via their email, through an autoresponder service. Email Course Tip #1 – Determine What the Purpose of the Course Is

Is this a free or paid course? Is the purpose of the course to encourage your audience to buy something from you when the course ends? If it’s a free course, what will the offer be at the end of the course? If it’s a paid course, how can you deliver exceptional value to your audience and make them feel as if they got their money’s worth?

Email Course Tip #2 – Decide What to Teach

Teach your audience about or how to do something that is unclear, frustrating or hard to do for your audience. If you’re not sure what this could be, look to ask your audience for the answers. You can ask them directly, or you can find groups where they ask questions. Any question is a likely a good choice for an email course.

Email Course Tip #3 – Organize the Subject

Choose your topic or question to answer so that you can now organize the subject into subtopics. You’ll want to pick one focused subtopic for each part of the email course. You don’t want to overwhelm your audience with too much information at one time. Instead, think of it like teaching one point of a problem at a time in a logical order.

Email Course Tip #4 – Choose How Long You Want the Course to Be

Usually an email course consists of five to seven emails for free courses, but sometimes a topic will require a lot more than that – especially if it’s a paid course. Decide how long, but more than six to eight weeks might be too long. It’s important to consider your audience so that you know how they’ll deal with shorter or longer courses. Making it too long might mean a lot of people don’t finish, but you do want to give enough information that they learn the material.

Email Course Tip #5 – Tell the Subscriber What to Expect

Before and after the subscriber signs up for the course, you should let them know what to expect. Be explicit about what is in the course so that they’ll know what’s coming and know what to look for. How many emails will be in the course? How often will they come? Will you send other emails and information to them? Let them know what to do if there is a problem. Probably the best place to do this is on the sales page, plus on the thank you page, plus in the first email.

You want each email to look like part of the same course by branding it the same. Use the same fonts, images, colors, intro and exit. Always tell them what you have already told them, and then after the body of the email tell them what to expect for the next part of the course. This will help hone their expectations in a way that keeps them interested and involved.

Email Course Tip #7 – Make Each Email Simple and To the Point

Once you’ve created a template for your course, it will be simple to fill in the details for the course. Give them one strong lesson each email, and keep the emails on the short side – no more than 700 to 1500 words per email. Otherwise it will be too overwhelming. If the email is going to be long, you can publish the content on unpublished pages on your website.

Email Course Tip #8 – Craft Subject Lines They’ll Recognize and Open

The subject line is important because it will be key to ensuring that your subscribers know to open the email. You probably want to put the name of the course and the lesson name inside so that they know.

Finally, give your audience a way to report problems and ask questions. You can do that via a special course email address or by making a private and closed Facebook group only for people who have signed up for the course.

You want them to read the information and answer your calls to action. But first, you must get them to open the emails. All that starts with crafting subject lines that encourage opening of your email messages. Make sure you are incorporating at least some of the following email subject line tips.

Email Subject Line Tip #1 – Pique Their Interest

Don’t give everything away in the subject line. Instead use the space to make them want to open the email and know more. Think about what they see when they get the email in their inbox and put the words in the right order to pique interest.

Email Subject Line Tip #2 – Tease Them

Email subject lines are a good way to bring humor and a fun personality to your email messages. Keeping your audience in mind, make your email subject lines evoke the emotions that your audience needs to open them.

Email Subject Line Tip #3 – Make Them Curious

The email subject line should make the reader curious enough to open it. If you know the audience you’re sending emails to well, and you should, it should not be difficult to craft curiosity-seeking email subject lines for them.

Email Subject Line Tip #4 – Don’t Be Too Clever

You don’t want to mislead your audience, so be careful about trying to be too clever with your email message subject lines. If they feel duped when they open the email, no matter how good your offer is, they’ll be unhappy.

Email Subject Line Tip #5 – Put Keywords First

Some people search their emails using various keywords; make it easy for them by including those keywords within the first three words of the email subject line. Plus, when the email comes in, the keyword will be immediately visible to them.

Email Subject Line Tip #6 – Personalize It

People respond very well to personalization in email messages, and that includes subject lines. If you can call out their name, or name their title, they’re going to be more likely to open the email message.

Email Subject Line Tip #7 – Avoid Filler Words

You have very little space in the email subject line. How long your subject line is will depend greatly on your audience. Test different lengths of subject lines to find out what works well with your audience, but the rule of thumb is 1 to 7 words or less than 130 characters.

Email Subject Line Tip #8 – Name Drop

A great place to name drop is in the subject line of an email. If you use a famous person’s name, or a person who your audience values, then all the better. You must be careful doing this because you don’t want the person’s name you drop to be angry, so ensure that it’s all positive. It needs to be a win-win situation.

Email Subject Line Tip #9 – Focus on a Deadline

A time limit mentioned in the subject line will also entice your audience to open it. If you offer a special that expires in three days, say so in the subject line so that they know that they need to open now and not wait until later. Note: Make the deadline real to be most effective.

Creating subject lines that encourage opening of emails is something that you need to consider carefully based on your topic, your audience and the results you’re hoping to achieve through your email marketing messages. You must also ensure that you have an email marketing plan.

Email Marketing Plan – Develop a Working Product Funnel

You probably already have various products and services, but you may not have designed a product funnel yet that helps you understand how everything is interconnected and works together. Understanding this can help you keep your different lists and promotions in order.

Email Marketing Plan – Design Sales Pages for Each Product

Each sales page should tell your audience the benefits of purchasing the product. Remember a sales page’s focus is on the audience, not on you. Focus on benefits over features. Pretend you are the client and answer all the questions and concerns they might have right on the sales page.

Using your autoresponder, create the lists for each product or service that you will promote. At a minimum, you will want a general email list for people who visit the front page of your blog and then two lists for each product you sell. When people purchase the product, automatically take them off the interest list and put them on the buyer list.

Don’t forget to craft all your follow-up messages too for each product that you sell. Once sold, you will want to keep in contact with the customer who bought it so that you can market future products and services to them.

Just like creating YouTube videos, it is easy and almost anyone can do it for any audience. Going Live is a little more complicated, but with the right instructions, you can do it. It’s important that you do, because live video is becoming super important for anyone who wants to build a strong business online.

The first thing you must do in order to go live on your YouTube Account is to set up a YouTube Channel.

When you set up your YouTube account, you want to think about the handle you’ll use. It’s important to think in terms of your audience and how they’ll find you. For example, if your channel is about Learning Algebra, then you need to have the word “Algebra” someplace in your handle to help people find you.

 It’s fast to set up your YouTube channel if you have a Gmail Account, but you don’t need one. In fact, everyone with a Gmail Account technically already has a YouTube channel for viewing shows.  Just go to YouTube and you’ll probably see your image from Gmail in the upper right.

You can also create a personal or a brand account by going to the Channel Switcher and adding a new channel. This is a good thing to do if you’re going live for Business to have a branded business account. Don’t worry, it’s free.

It’s My Freedomversary

My Freedomversary

FreedomversaryOctober 8th was the one year anniversary of my exodus from Corporate America. It is my Freedomversary. I can’t believe it has been a year. The year has gone by quickly. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had just returned from Connie Ragen Green’s Weekend Marketer Live event in Manhattan Beach, CA. Not only had I attended the event, but I had the opportunity to speak as well. My talk was on Google Analytics and I had really connected with the audience. I was very excited and couldn’t wait to get home to get started implementing the new things I learned.

I had just finished a very challenging contract right before I left for my trip. I was eager to get started with my next assignment and close out the previous one. I retuned home on a Tuesday and my world was turned upside down on that Thursday. At 3 PM on October 8, 2015, I received a call from my supervisor that I was being laid off immediately. I would be paid for the next two weeks, but as of now, I had been relieved of my duties. I was in shock. I had never been laid off. I had always been the employee that went the extra mile and did whatever it took to get the job done. I had worked so many hours on this contract that just ended. I sacrificied so many things for this job and other jobs that I had in the past. Just like that, it was over.

My plan was to leave the corporate world but not exactly at that time. It was the beginning of 4th quarter, I was really going to hit it hard with my Amazon business to give me some cushion. Well that was all out of the window. To give insult to injury, my benefits would end on October 8th instead of the end of the month. In all the other jobs that I have had over my career, benefits will continue until the end of the month. At first I had a range of emotions, anger, disbelief, fear, sadness and panic.

 I then realized that this was not the worst thing that had happened to me. I have lost both of my parents and this is the most devasting thing that has happened in my life. With the encouragement of my family, friends and mentor, I decided that I would not look for another job. This would start my journey as a full-time entrepreneur. I believe that this was God’s way of getting me out of a stressful situation that was slowly killing me physically and emotionally.

I now completely embrace my new normal as a full-time entreprenuer that has gotten out of the rat race, control my own destiny and no longer trade time for dollars. I will not say that it has been easy or it is not stressful at times but it is a different kind of stress. Everything hasn’t gone perfectly but I would not trade it for the world.

I am blessed to be able to celebrate my Freedomversary. If this is something that you desire, then don’t give up on your dream. You need to work on your business everyday even if you only have limited time. You may have to give up television, going out or other things that take up your time. Believe me, in the end, it is worth it.

Did you know that people spend 3 times longer watching video which is Live compared to video which is no longer Live? Also, video posts have 135% greater organic reach than photo posts. Before Facebook Live, most people would upload their YouTube videos to Facebook. Now, Facebook’s share of video posts uploaded directly to Facebook has overtaken YouTube’s videos on Facebook.

Once you try creating content for Facebook Live, you will very quickly recognize just how great the format is for really connecting with your audience and offering something different and more exciting compared with your competition.

And once you realize that, you’ll no doubt want to ensure that your content is seen by as many people as possible. This is why it’s so important to start building your viewership and making sure you have as large an audience as possible. And after all, isn’t that the MO of any online marketer?

So the question then becomes: how do you go about growing your audience on Facebook and getting more people to read your content? Let’s answer that question.

And happily, Facebook has commented that its algorithm puts live content above most other types of content. Thus, the easiest way to get more people to see your videos is to grow your following for your page. And the way you do that is the way you handle any social media marketing: by building your brand across multiple channels and making sure that you are consistently offering high quality and establishing yourself as an authority.

You can also use Facebook Advertising to build more likes for your page. And actually, the best way to do this is with ‘CPA’ or ‘Cost Per Action’. This means you only pay when someone takes action through your advertising and in this case, that can mean liking your page.

If you can work out how many of your followers see your video and how many of your viewers buy your products, you can then calculate a budget for your CPA ads and actually guarantee a good ROI or Return On Investment. CPA combined with Facebook targeting is one of the very best ways to grow your audience.

Use the Right Description

As with the title of a link, the description of your video is one of the only influencing factors you have to work with. Your aim is to make your video stand out and grab attention in a way that will make people curious!

Invite People to Follow

Some people will find your videos through friends or through the Facebook Live Map. Make sure that you invite them to follow you so you can turn those first-time viewers into long-term fans!

It would not pass emissions so either I had to get it fixed or let it go. I really didn’t want to get rid of it even though I purchased a new Toyota Avalon in January 2015. When the tow truck took it away, I was a little sad. I knew it may sound pretty silly but I had that car for 16 years. There were a lot of fond memories. My son played travel basketball growing up so that car saw many road trips. But is was time to let it go.

The same thing can happen in your business. Sometimes it is time to let things go. You may be doing something that was good to do at the time but now it is not. It is time to let it go. I will give you an example. At one time, posting articles in the article directories was a great way to drive traffic to your website. Google loved them and your articles would show up high in the search rankings. At some point, Google no longer loved them so these directories did not help your business as much. I used to write articles on a regular basis and even hosted a 30 Day Article Challenge. This is an example of something I had to let go. You can still write articles but they are not going to give you the boost they once did. This is no longer a priority in my business.

Are there things you are doing in your business that no longer serve you? You need to do an assessment every 3 months to determine if you need to make changes. You may need to add some things and let others go.

One of the hot things right now is live video. There is Periscope and Facebook Live. People still watch a lot of YouTube videos but they are really into live video now. I follow several people on Periscope and look forward to their scopes. Facebook Live is even newer and is gaining popularity every day. Are you embracing these new technologies? I am not saying that you should drop everything you are doing to jump on the latest bandwagon, but you must be aware of the trends. You don’t want to be thought of as “a thing of the past”.

Don’t be so stuck on how you have always done things that you are not open to new things. Be objective and determine when it is time to let things go. A successful business is one that keeps up with the trends and is willing to try new things.
