During my first 10K Laser Coaching call, I was given a lot of tasks to complete. It seemed overwhelming but I decided I would just prioritize the tasks and get through them. One of the tasks was to write a press release. Since I have been a student of Connie’s for a while, this was not the first time that I had heard her say this. Even though, I know she gives great marketing advice, I was hesitant to do this.
Growing up, a lot of us are taught to not be boastful, toot your own horn or be arrogant. Being shy and an introvert along with these teachings made me very uncomfortable talking about and promoting myself. The problem is you have to talk about yourself and get others to talk about you if you want to be an online marketer. How will you be successful if no one knows who you are? How can you sell any products if no one knows you have anything to sell? You can’t be a stealth marketer.
I had to do some serious soul searching and the conclusion was, “Get over it Adrienne Dupree”. You need to get out of your comfort zone and listen to someone who has proven results. I am happy to say that I just completed my first press release, “Bowie, MD Resident Adrienne Dupree Selected As Latest 10K Laser Coaching Student”.
I submitted the press release to WebWire and it was approved and released in less than 2 hours. The whole process was so easy. I am kicking myself for not doing this earlier. Once I got the confirmation email that my press release was approved, I was elated.
Writing press releases is not that hard. It needs to be about something that is news worthy. For example, it could be about the announcement of a new blog, a reinvigorated blog, free report, new product, new book, new joint venture partnership, etc. Use your imagination and you will be surprised at how many things you can write a press release about.
My goal is to find something at least once a month that is worthy of a press release. This is a two-fold goal. I will be gaining great online visibility at least once a month and I will be on the hook to do something news worthy at least once a month.
Are you currently using press releases? Have you ever written a press release? If not, when do you plan to write your first release?
